Choosing the Right Martial Arts School for Your Child

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Parents all over the country are becoming more and more interested in the benefits of enrolling their children in a high quality martial arts program. Character development and physical fitness are becoming more important now than ever before. Before just running out and signing your child up for lessons there’s a couple things you should know.

First, not all martial arts programs are the same. Look for a reputable program in your area and ask if you can bring your child in to observe a class. Most places won’t mind. While you’re watching the class, carefully observe the higher ranking students in the program. Are they acting the way you want your child to act? Do they show respect for the teacher and other students? How does the teacher interact with the students? These are all very important things. The higher ranking children should exemplify the way you want your child to act.

Second, most martial arts schools offer a low risk or free trial for new students to come experience the program before joining. This is a great way to get a “feel” for the school, the instructor, and program before making any long term commitments.

Third, determine what you want out of the program. A parent looking for an activity between football and soccer will need something different than a parent really looking to develop confidence, character, and discipline. Not all programs are created equal. Determine what your objective is, and then find the school that can help you get there.

There are also many other benefits to training in the martial arts. Martial arts will make you more flexible, stronger; you’ll improve your coordination, and build your cardiovascular system among other things. Most importantly, your child will have a great time learning the actual art itself.

Best Martial Arts Training Creates Speed and Strength

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Martial arts is literally the study of military combat training. Unconventional martial arts videos and movies can be fun to watch. Whether your first exposure to martial arts comes from watching martial arts movies or looking at martial arts magazines or martial arts instructional videos, you can find a martial arts system suited to your own style of physical activity. Martial arts instructors can teach you how to quickly overcome an opponent through direct martial arts training or through a series of martial arts videos that supplement the teaching you receive in the martial arts school.

Just as languages mutate and dialects and accents reflect different geographical or cultural places on the planet, the language of martial arts is changing and becoming more complex and sophisticated. One outcome is that a new martial arts style – known simply as “mixed martial arts” has taken center stage. And when people fight, those with mixed martial artistry expertise are able to speak in a language that is universally respected as a powerful and masterful contender, whether in tournaments or on the street.

First let start with that fact that no martial art is the best. However each martial arts has different qualities that make it good and/or display it’s strengths. The verses arts all have some thing to offer it’s students/clients. So weather you choose Karate, Jujutsu, Judo, Kung fu, Japanese Sword, Aikido etc that is not problem. The problem lays in the instruction, teacher, and what is being give to the student/client. In short what are you looking for from this martial arts school. If you are looking for childcare then a class that offers childcare with a martial arts favor it for you. However please remember that if you are looking for that service then the school meet that need. There are great schools and instructors however not all school can be or do all things. So those that maybe great in the area of childcare it may not be great in the area of teenager and adult martial arts training. Just as if you are looking for the opposite type of school a teenager or adult school would not fit.

When looking for a school please look at the school and your needs. Here is an example: Programs that focus on fitness may not focus on self-defense. There are thousands of martial arts styles out there in the world. There are also some very good one out there for you and can and will be happy to assist you.
